The first question that has to be asked is – Do I really WANT to do God’s will? Or do I want to do MY will?
Of course, if the answer is “No, I want to do my will” – then there is not much to discuss. The Bible tells that then you will stand before God and take the penalty for every one of your sins.
So you might now stop reading this.
But hopefully the answer is “Yes, of course I want to do God’s will!” He created me and without Him I would immediately die. I owe Him everything, my very life – so of course, Yes!
Then we can now continue and look at this question about sin.
1. The first thing to keep in mind is that we all sin, and no matter our best efforts, we can not live a sin-free life.
2. But even if we could live a very good life, with very few sins – it still would not help us.
3. God told us that the purpose of the law that God gave was to show that we could not live a sin-free life – we are not able to save ourselves.
(Of course this goes down to the choices of our ancestors Adam and Eve.)
4. And God know this. And He is fair. So He, Himself came to suffer terribly and innocent die on a cross, for us!
5. So we would not be damned for the choices of our ancestors Adam and Eve.
And it is as easy for us as it was for Adam and Eve.
6. We don’t need to worry about living a sin-free life, which we can’t.
7. Instead, what we need to do is to Give our Heart to Jesus – 100%, believe in Him, follow Him – 100%, no matter the cost.
This is not a lightweight, cheap thing. It is a 100% commitment. To death.
This is in much the same choice that Adam and Eve could have made, and should have made, but did not make – wherefore we are in this mess.
8. As such the question should not be – “What is sin and what shall I not do?”
9 . Instead we should Give All the Heart to Jesus – 100 % and live close to Him.
10. Making Him our lord and following Him – we find ourselves in the fantastic position that our sins does not matter.
We don’t need to live the sin-free life, that we cannot live, due to Adam and Eve.
We will go to heaven because of what Jesus did for us – and we don’t need to account for our sins. They are cancelled.
11. Therefore instead of asking – “What is sin, and what should I not do?”
The question should be – “Jesus took my penalty – do I love Him back with all my heart?” “Do I want to follow Him, no matter the cost?”
And to make sure that the answer is YES!
That is what matters.
12. Does this mean that we should sin?
Of course not.
When you love Jesus with all your heart – you want to do things that please Him!
13. But the solution is not to try to make a list of all sins you can think of and try to avoid them. That is double trap.
Both,
a) you will miss loads of sins anyway, probably the majority;
and
b) suddenly you might think that doing or not doing sins will affect your going to heaven.
14. Instead, when you make Jesus your lord, the law will be written in your heart. Jesus will show you what He wants you to do and what He does not want you to do.
Some things He might point out to you quickly, others after some time, and others He might never take up with you.
Quitting things that does not please Him, will come naturally when He is your best friend.
15. As such, the point is not to ask yourself or others, “What is sin and what shall I not do?”
But instead – “Do I love Jesus back and follow Him with all of my Heart?”
Because if you don’t – trying to avoid sins, will still not save you from an eternity in hell.
16. Jesus loved you enough to die for you and free you from the curse of your parents Adam and Eve.
He more than deserves to be loved back.
To Give All the Heart to Him is the least we can do, and nothing else will do!
